Homemade Macadamia Shampoo Bar

Solid shampoo bars are eco-friendly, travel-friendly, and last far longer than liquid shampoo. Adding macadamia oil creates a wonderfully conditioning lather.

Ingredients

  • 200g SCI (sodium cocoyl isethionate) surfactant noodles
  • 30g macadamia oil
  • 15g coconut oil
  • 10g cocoa butter
  • 1 tablespoon argan oil
  • 15 drops essential oil blend (try rosemary + peppermint, or lavender + cedarwood)
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon silk protein powder for extra shine

Method

  1. Melt: Using a double boiler, gently melt the SCI noodles with the coconut oil and cocoa butter. Stir frequently. Do not overheat.
  2. Add oils: Remove from heat and stir in the macadamia oil, argan oil, and silk protein if using.
  3. Scent: Once the mixture has cooled slightly (but is still workable), stir in the essential oils.
  4. Mould: Press firmly into silicone moulds. Pack tightly to avoid air bubbles.
  5. Set: Allow to harden at room temperature for 24–48 hours.
  6. Cure: Unmould and leave to cure in a dry, airy place for 1 week before using.

To Use

Wet your hair, then rub the bar between your hands or directly onto your hair to create a lather. Massage into the scalp and rinse thoroughly. The macadamia oil will leave hair feeling conditioned and soft.

Each bar lasts approximately 60–80 washes. Store on a well-drained soap dish between uses.
