This simple lip balm uses macadamia oil's excellent emollient properties to keep lips soft and protected against wind, cold, and dryness.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons macadamia oil
- 1 tablespoon beeswax pellets (or candelilla wax for vegan)
- 1 tablespoon shea butter
- ½ teaspoon raw honey
- 3 drops peppermint or vanilla essential oil (optional)
Method
- Melt: Combine the beeswax, shea butter, and macadamia oil in a small heatproof bowl. Place over a pan of simmering water (double boiler) and stir until everything is melted and combined.
- Add honey: Remove from heat and quickly stir in the honey and essential oil. Work fast as the mixture sets quickly.
- Pour: Carefully pour into small lip balm tins or tubes. You should get approximately 6–8 small containers.
- Set: Leave undisturbed at room temperature for 1–2 hours until completely solid.
Tips
- For a softer balm, increase the macadamia oil slightly. For a firmer balm, add more beeswax.
- Add a tiny amount of beetroot powder for a natural tint.
- These make lovely small gifts, especially in decorative tins.
Keeps for up to 12 months. The macadamia oil's natural stability means this balm has an excellent shelf life.
