These luxurious bath bombs combine the fizzy fun of bicarbonate of soda and citric acid with the skin-softening benefits of macadamia oil.
Ingredients (makes 4–6 bombs)
- 200g bicarbonate of soda
- 100g citric acid
- 50g cornflour
- 50g Epsom salts
- 2 tablespoons macadamia oil
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted
- 15–20 drops essential oil (lavender for relaxation, eucalyptus for invigoration)
- Optional: natural colourant (turmeric for yellow, spirulina for green, beetroot for pink)
- Witch hazel in a spray bottle
Method
- Mix dry: Whisk together the bicarbonate of soda, citric acid, cornflour, and Epsom salts in a large bowl. Break up any lumps.
- Mix wet: In a small jug, combine the macadamia oil, coconut oil, and essential oils. Add colourant if using.
- Combine: Very slowly drizzle the wet mixture into the dry, whisking continuously. The mixture should hold together when squeezed but not fizz. If too dry, spritz lightly with witch hazel.
- Mould: Pack firmly into silicone moulds or bath bomb moulds. Press very tightly.
- Dry: Leave to harden for 24–48 hours at room temperature.
- Store: Wrap individually in cling film or place in airtight containers.
Drop one bomb into a warm bath and enjoy the fizz. The macadamia oil disperses through the water, coating your skin in a light, nourishing layer. Makes wonderful handmade gifts.
