Macadamia Oil Bath Bombs

These luxurious bath bombs combine the fizzy fun of bicarbonate of soda and citric acid with the skin-softening benefits of macadamia oil.

Ingredients (makes 4–6 bombs)

  • 200g bicarbonate of soda
  • 100g citric acid
  • 50g cornflour
  • 50g Epsom salts
  • 2 tablespoons macadamia oil
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted
  • 15–20 drops essential oil (lavender for relaxation, eucalyptus for invigoration)
  • Optional: natural colourant (turmeric for yellow, spirulina for green, beetroot for pink)
  • Witch hazel in a spray bottle

Method

  1. Mix dry: Whisk together the bicarbonate of soda, citric acid, cornflour, and Epsom salts in a large bowl. Break up any lumps.
  2. Mix wet: In a small jug, combine the macadamia oil, coconut oil, and essential oils. Add colourant if using.
  3. Combine: Very slowly drizzle the wet mixture into the dry, whisking continuously. The mixture should hold together when squeezed but not fizz. If too dry, spritz lightly with witch hazel.
  4. Mould: Pack firmly into silicone moulds or bath bomb moulds. Press very tightly.
  5. Dry: Leave to harden for 24–48 hours at room temperature.
  6. Store: Wrap individually in cling film or place in airtight containers.

Drop one bomb into a warm bath and enjoy the fizz. The macadamia oil disperses through the water, coating your skin in a light, nourishing layer. Makes wonderful handmade gifts.
