Micro-Jets Replace Drippers to Boost Young Tree Growth

Getting irrigation right is one of the most important factors in establishing a successful macadamia orchard. After observing that some sections of our younger trees were struggling to take off, we've made the decision to replace drippers with micro-jets in these areas.

The change allows us to apply volatile fertilisers more regularly and effectively through the irrigation system — a technique known as fertigation. With drippers, the fertiliser delivery was too localised and we were often waiting for rain to distribute nutrients across the root zone. Micro-jets provide a wider spray pattern that better matches the spreading root system of young macadamia trees.

The upgrade also improves our ability to keep the soil consistently moist during dry spells, which is crucial for young trees that haven't yet developed deep root systems. We expect to see a noticeable improvement in growth rates and canopy development over the coming seasons.

Macadamia farming is a constant learning process. What works in one soil type or micro-climate may not work in another, even on the same farm. We're always experimenting, observing, and adapting our approach to give every tree the best possible start.
