Macadamia Farming and Community Development in Zimbabwe

At Mighty Umkondo, we believe that growing great macadamia nuts and supporting local communities go hand in hand. Our farm in Chipinge, Zimbabwe is more than a commercial operation; it's a community anchor.

Employment

Our farm employs approximately 30 permanent managers and field workers, providing stable, year-round employment in a region where formal work opportunities are limited. During harvest season, additional seasonal workers join the team, creating further income for local families.

Skills Development

We invest in training our team in modern agricultural techniques, from pruning and irrigation management to pest identification and quality control. These skills are transferable, helping workers build careers in agriculture beyond our farm.

Economic Ripple Effects

The wages and business activities generated by our farm create ripple effects throughout the Chipinge community. Local shops, transport services, and suppliers all benefit from the economic activity our operation generates.

Sustainable Growth

As our trees mature and production increases, we plan to expand our workforce and increase our community contributions. We're exploring partnerships with local schools and considering farm-based training programmes for young people interested in agricultural careers.

Looking Ahead

Zimbabwe's macadamia industry is still young, but its potential is enormous. We hope our farm can serve as a model for sustainable, community-focused macadamia farming that other growers in the region can follow.
